Subject: your favorite style?

I've been brewing ales all summer, before that it was porters, before
that stouts. I'm looking to stack up a few brew sessions this fall and
fill the kegs for winter with some different styles.

Tell me what is your favorite style and why.

When I do out to dinner, the selections are never what one would
desire. I always hope for a Porter on tap. Stout in the US is
just not that good. I generally grateful to get an IPA.

When I brew, I am a Mead guy making Mead 3 to 1 over beer. My
favorite is a Traditional Mead blended with Maple Syrup.

As for beer, Imperial IPA's, Belgian Dark Strong Ale, and all of
the Strong Ales are at the top of my list as I'm both a hophead
and a malthead with a high tolerance for alcohol. Remember: An
ale at 10% ABV means you drink half as much beer for the same
alcohol hit.

If I won the lottery, I would drink Chimay Grande Reserve every
day.

very stong IPA's no question. Why? Cause I'm a hophead with a high alcohol
tolerance :)))

I can't possibly narrow down to just one favorite style. I'm a sucker for
anything with serious malt character, but that isn't burnt like a stout or
porter. My two favorite styles are probably American pale ale, and
doppelbock. If it's a pale ale, it's got to have plenty of caramel to help
balance the abundant hops. If it's doppelbock, well then it better be
toasty, clean, and strong.

My favorite brews for winter are basically anything strong, like
spiced/holiday/winter ale (yeah, I know it's a pretty generic category),
barleywine, Scotch ale, mead, cider, apple ale, and doppelbock. Winter is
the time to sip strong, chewy, tasty brews.

How about "Koelsch"? The basic reason being is that there's no
room to hide flaws and your process is either spot on, or the beer
sucks. Aside from the production issues, Koelsch is a classic "session"
style beer, albeit not terribly characterful for the most part, and is
pretty much perfect for the kind of summers we have here in the
DC area.

If, however, you're brewing to have beer in stock for winter, angle
for the Russian Imperial Stout, Strong Scotch Ale, and Barleywines
(American BWs being my preferred style). If you get them brewed
in the next couple of weeks, they may be read for New Year's, or
possibly St. Valentine's Day.

The 'why' is I like hops.
This leads me to IPAs APAs.

Ironically, the 'why' is I like malt.
This leads me to wee heavies and English-style barleywines.

I don't have a favorite style. I like a wide range
of beer styles, depending on my mood, the occasion, etc.
That's one reason I brew-- to make anything I think will
appeal to my tastes.
I do have a few less-favorite styles. Weizen (though
Dunkelweizen is a nice change of pace beer), Wit or 'most
any spiced beer, vapid modern English IPA, bland modern
American Lager.

Why? Because I like them? Because I'm not a hop head? Malt???
English Brown
ESB
Scottish Ales
Koelsch

I like to drink, but I don't like to be incapacitated, so I like Mild.
Other English style ales are also appreciated.

I'm not much of a hop head.

If I'm relegated to just one style it's English Bitter. Why? Because
I like it. That said, there is a lot to be said for porters, stouts,
IPAs, and scottish ales. Oh, and oktoberfest and bock are pretty nice
too. Throw in the occasional pilsn and vienna for a palate cleanser
and you've got a nice night of drinking there. ;)

I like mild ale. It is a session beer that is full of flavor and not too
alcoholic. Further, it is almost impossible to find commercially.
