Subject: when is a batch of StarSan used up?
|
I've been using 5 gallon batches of StarSan for a while and I ususally threw it after a full batch of beer, I.E. sanatizing before the primary, at secondary, and at bottling. So far so good. I just aquired some PH strips that got down to 2.8, the kind used for wine, and have recently noticed even though the starsan looks a bit cloudy after 3 uses the PH is below 2.8, I tend to use a little over what it calls for. Can I used this indefinately as long as the PH stays below 3 and make sure my equipment is very thouroughly cleaned with PBW before sanitzing thus not having any organic material enter the StarSan or should I throw it out after a certain number of uses and/or could I just "sweeten"it up by adding a 1/2 oz or so more of straight StarSan to the existing mixture? Just trying to save a few bucks but a spoild batch of beer is alot of time and money compated to another bottle of StarSan. Thanx in advance. Gerard

I usually mix up 2.5 gallon batches with distilled water, and keep using it for months. I just make sure to store it in a tightly sealed bucket.
