Subject: when is a batch of StarSan used up?

I've been using 5 gallon batches of StarSan for a while and I ususally threw
it after a full batch of beer, I.E. sanatizing before the primary, at
secondary, and at bottling. So far so good. I just aquired some PH strips
that got down to 2.8, the kind used for wine, and have recently noticed even
though the starsan looks a bit cloudy after 3 uses the PH is below 2.8, I
tend to use a little over what it calls for. Can I used this indefinately as
long as the PH stays below 3 and make sure my equipment is very thouroughly
cleaned with PBW before sanitzing thus not having any organic material enter
the StarSan or should I throw it out after a certain number of uses and/or
could I just "sweeten"it up by adding a 1/2 oz or so more of straight
StarSan to the existing mixture? Just trying to save a few bucks but a
spoild batch of beer is alot of time and money compated to another bottle of
StarSan. Thanx in advance.

Gerard

Generally, StarSan remains effective as long as the pH is below 3.0,
although your local water chemistry has a lot to do with how quickly
it clouds up. I usually mix up 2.5 gallon batches with distilled
water, and keep using it for months. I just make sure to store it in a
tightly sealed bucket.
