Thanks, Dave

I have not gone down that road, but I am ready to do so as soon as we move. US Plastics will run you $146.48 for a 15 gallon conical (plus applicable taxes amd shipping). Now at Toledo Metal Spinning (http://tinyurl.com/lqpdr), you can get a 14.7 gallon stainless steel conical without both a stand and a lid for $184 with steep quantity discounts as in $142 each for two and $135 each for three. They also have 12.2 and 10.5 gallon conicals plus various other sizes. Scott Northuis' "How to Build a Conical Fermentor Cheap" is at http://hbd.org/brewniversity/engineering/conical/ OR http://tinyurl.com/hmmtr Section 5 is how to buid a cover and Section 6 is how to build a fementer stand. I found the article well worth reading. Some time ago I called both Toledo Metal Spinning and US Plastics. The individual with whom I spoke at Toledo was knowledgeable and cooperative. I can not say that about the individual with who I spoke at US Plastics. My call was to determine if they would pre-drill the needed ports. Toledo will. US would not. US may have reconsidered their position or the individual there was uninformed. Dick

Search this groups archives for many debates / ideas on how to accomplish this. I can't use it here in FL, even in the winter it's too hot. Another thing is the lid is not airtight, not a big deal, but I like to watch the water lock bubble.

In article <dave-906136.15463122072006@nntp.charter.net >, Dave Smith says... >I'm wondering if anyone here has gone down this road and can give some >advice or further information on it. I almost went down that road, but ended up with a MiniBrew 15 gallon instead. It cost a little more, but I opted for it mainly because it has a full size opening (makes it much easier to clean) and uses thick HDPE, as opposed to thin MDPE.
