Subject: trying to understand barleywines

I did this recipe this past weekend.
http://www.modernbrewer.com/recipes/index.htm
This is my first BarleyWine.
I have seen many other recipes for Barley Wines that discuss
several months in secondary but this recipe proceeds fairly
normally(week or so in primary...bottle condition).
Why the huge difference?

Many people feel that barleywines benefit from extended aging, so they'll
leave the beer in the secondary for much longer than other beers. You
don't have to do it that way though, it's mostly personal preference.
As long as the beer is really done fermenting, any aging after that is
up to you.
