when dry hopping in the serving keg, has anybody come accross problems from overcarbonation since the beer will ferment the hops?. I had an ipa awhile back that was foaming way to much and it was dryhopped in the serving keg. the hops were added and the keg wasnt vented for a couple days, then i started force carbonation. also while serving will i need to do anything with the mesh bag full of whole hops to prevent them from clogging the out tube or can i just let it float. Thanks...

Some people use fishing line or string to "hang" the hop bag from the lid of the keg, so that it doesn't clog the tube. John.

That's totally different, it is fermented with lactobacillus not yeast. I have noticed that putting hops in a keg can start it going again, except I don't think it really did. I think the hops provided nucleation points and the CO2 in the beer started coming out. -- Andy Davison andy [at] oiyou [dot] ukfsn [dot] org

Cabbage has sugars in it that will ferment...hops don't. -------- >Denny -- Life begins at 60...1.060, that is.

Adding dry hops to the serving keg should cause no extra gas to be produced. My guess is that either your system wasn't in balance, or maybe the beer wasn't done fermenting. -- (Replies: cleanse my address of the Mark of the Beast!) Nothing for them to ferment, but it sure can look like the addition of dry hops "re-starts" fermentation. As others have indicated it's just CO2 coming out of solution. -- Bill
