Dear All, I would like to know if there is anything bad about sleeping in the same room as the fermenter? I have a new baby coming, and as such, I will probably be kicked out of my room and in the same room as the fermenter. Space is tight - I live in Japan. There is no way to avoid it. I guess there is nothing wrong with it but I thought I would ask. Thanks in advance, z

The beer gods will approve. Congrats on the pending new arrival(s). I'm still alive so it must be OK :-) Japanese homes being notoriously thin walled and very draughty I doubt the CO2 in a batch would harm you. If you're in Tokyo do you know about Tokyo-BEERS? Hey Wayne, From a previous post of yours. I remembered details for that place in Christchurch NZ that has a bitter that I think you're trying to recreate. The place was called The Twisted Hop and their bitter was called Challenger. Their aim is to recreate english style ales and Challenger has a really (read really really yum!!!) long lasting bitter tang that lasts longer than soup in a goucho moustache! So should you ever get to visit this part of the world, you know where to go, ay? :-) Mike "Wayne" <rondonjin@yahoo.com > wrote in message news:em36o9$pfl$1@registered.motzarella.org... > On Sat, 16 Dec 2006 21:36:43 -0800, supadupa wrote: > > > Dear All, > > > > I would like to know if there is anything bad about sleeping in the > > same room as the fermenter? Well isn't having a fermenter in a room no worse than having a cat, dog or person in the room too? It's just co2, what people/pets exhale. Unless you're worried that the bubbling sound might wake your baby.

I guess there is nothing wrong with it but I thought I would ask. It might smell a bit weird (depending on if you like the smell of fermenting beer or not), but I doubt you can hurt yourself or anything. The fermenter will put out CO2, so I guess theoretically if the room were small enough you could get to a point where the CO2 was displacing your air supply. IMO, you'd probably have to seal yourself in something like a small cardboard box with the fermenter before that happened. I doubt it's anything to really worry about. John.

Gidday Mike, The Twisted Hop! Sounds like a great name for a brewery! I'd love to get my gums around some of their Challenger brew, it sounds tasty. I remember having some 'Hop' named beers in the UK last year. Cains Triple Hop and Dark Star Hophead! I have memories of the latter :-) Cheers Wayne -- Registered Linux user #375994 http://www.geocities.jp/rondonko/

There won't be enough CO2 to bother you, but if it makes you feel better you could get some plants. The plants will in turn convert a small enough amount of the CO2 into O2 to equally not make any difference, thereby creating an equilibrium point that doesn't matter anyway (but at least you'll have some nice plants to look at). With due respect,if you are worried about CO2 in other than a sealed room, then this first child will be a challenge for U and the next one even easier and by the third you will "rub a little dirt" in a skint knee and send them on -- Thanks Hank BTW,I am a physician "
