Subject: recycled yeast starter

i usually recycle my yeast by making a starter and then pouring some of the starter back into the wl tube before i pitch the rest into my batch. My question is will the amount of recycled yeast i gather with this process be enough to make a large starter doubling what i would normally have using a growler, 2/3 cups malt extract and 32oz of water? or will i need to build it up using 1/3 cups and 16 oz of water and doub it after that. Thanks

I use this method, and go straight to a 2L starter with no problems. I think you'll be fine. John.

Given the same volume/gravity of starter wort, does the amount of initial yeast pitched in the starter affect the final cell count? Steve

Maybe, but probably not enough that you really need to worry about it much. IMO, the volume of the starter is more important. John.
