New Brewing Lager Beer by Gregory J. Noonan... This book has everything
from basics to a great breakdown on decion mashing...everything...
though there is a part at the end where he describes all the
equipment... total waste of space...

This is my main reference book for ales and especially lagers...

Do you mean batch sparging produces maltier flavor than fly sparging,
or at least complete fly sparging?

No -- no-sparge and batch sparge aren't the same thing. I just mean I'm
seeing some noticable improvements minimizing or eliminating my sparge.
Of course, YMMV -- usual cautions apply.

That idea has been put forth by George Fix and others. Mr. Wizard even
mentions something to that effect in this month's BYO. I agree with
them, but it's so subjective that I won't try to convinve anyone of it.
