Subject: neophytical SG reading question

Hi helpful brewing types,
I've had my First Brew Ever in my primary (6.5 gal carboy) for a while,
and my question is: what is the best way to get a gravity reading while
minimizing oxidization? Do I have to siphon a sample out of the carboy?
Or am I missing something simpler?
