I don't use bleach for any part of brewing and I use bottled spring water and have had a couple good brews with it. This last IPA I taste a bandaid type taste in the backround. I use iodophor at 1 TBSP per 5 gallons to sanitize. Any help on what might be causing this off flavour? Thanx in advance. Gerard

You're tasting phenolic esters. Some yeasts produce this. Sounds like you need to clean more aggressively. Sometimes when I'm on this subject I get a mental image of some 300lb burger pilot jogging in a large metal tub literaly sweatin his ass off. Of course it makes you wonder what do they do with all that "special sauce" that drips off of his sesame seeded buns? Well, I'll just let you guys ponder on that. Oh, where's my bottled water? Steve

Upon tasting another of the same batch today I'm thinking I may have mistasted. I did alot of cascade and columbus hops for flavour and aroma. I think what I'm tasting might be the citrusy/grapefruity flavour. I really have to quit cigarettes. I know they're messing with my taste buds. As far as the bottled water I use goes, my girlfriend doesn't smoke and she has tasted this spring water at room temperature and says it has no chlorine smells and tastes nice.I'm starting to think it's just me. Believe it or not some of these "spring water" people do nothing more than bottle it from their own tap and then noone knows the difference. Try changing your water source one or two times just to see if that has any effect.Being that these flavors that you describe are typicaly a byproduct of chlorine in one way or another and from what you say that may be the only variable.
