i did a secondary in my keg for my ipa and served it from the same keg once it dropped a few gravity points. i got a big problem with foaming and the psi is set to 12. my 3/16 i.d. hose is 6 ft long... tried using a different tap and quick disco and still the same foam. it foamed like this even when i released the the pressure and set it to 5 psi. what is wrong here the keg is gone now and it foamed for every glass.

Both of the issues stated above could have been the case. I tried a 8 ft hose i use for my hi carb belgian ales and that foamed just as much. I was starting to think it was the poppet since the foam was constant for 2 weeks at 12psi and i was venting pressure here and there. The beer had never cleared and you could see alot of particles floating around, so i will definitely check the poppet before i put the next batch in the keg. thanks for the responses

Are you sure it was done fermenting? You said you waited for it to drop a few points, does that mean you were sure it had stopped dropping? Setting the regulator on your tank to a certain PSI only controlls when the tank feeds gas to the keg, it doesn't necessarily mean that is the pressure in the keg. If it's creating pressure internally (from continued yeast activity) then it could have been higher than 12PSI, which would have caused foaming. I've had this happen before when I kegged too early. John.

Mine is caused by hop particles getting caught in the beer out poppet. I usually let the pressure off the keg, take off the post and clean out the chunks. I would imagine if you secondaried in the keg you were serving from you would definitely get crap to the poppet. Hope this helps. Bill
