I know that flourescent light and direct sunlight can have an affect on beer flavour. What about incandescent and indirect sunlight i.e. blinds pulled but room still has some light eminating through the blinds. I have my carboy wrapped with a towel ATM but was just wondering. Thanx in advance. Gerard

Thanx in advance. Flourescent and direct sunlight will "skunk" beer. There are chemicals in the hops which react with certain wavelengths of light. Incandescent light does not have enough of the right wavelengths to cause a problem, so it's safe. Indirect sunlight depends on how much of the right wavelength is getting through, tough to call. John.

Ah, mi amigo, if you have always lived in OZ, you ain't really seen freezing. Zero to -5C is 32 to 23F and not to mention the snow that stays on the ground and turns to ice. Places like Chicago and Minneapolis -10 to -15F which is -23.7 to -26C. I truly envy your idea of freezing! <G > Dick

It's late Autumn/Fall here and the max temps are in the mid teens (°C) Although, we do have a snow ski season here in the Aussie alps. Steve W

Thanx in advance. Incandescent is OK, it's mostly yellow and red. Indirect sunlight does contain a lot of blue and green, so it's a question of how much and how long. A red curtain would help a lot.
