Does it go bad?, or can I keep a couple gallons mixed and ready for
emergencies, i.e. hooking up a blowoff tube really quick

Undiluted iodophor is very stable. Once diluted to
"working strength" it becomes much less so, especially
if subjected to heat, light, chlorine (which exists in
much US municipal water), etc. The rule of thumb is to
discard it roughly 24 hours after dilution, or any time
after the color begins to fade.

Hmmm. I was told to use luke warm water, which I just assumed would be
100-110 degree F water. Is this too hot for idophor?

I think so. I know my bottle says to use cool water....

I always use cold tap water.

I frequently put iodophor into a corny for a week or so and reuse it. I
don't have chlorinated water, so no worries there. The corny protects
it from light, and it generally gets stored in a col place, so I guess
I'm OK there! I tested it once with one of the iodophor test strips and
after a week, it was still OK, so I guess it really depends on storage
conditions. Protein contamination is a deal killer, though....if you
toss stuff in that dirty with wort or grain, it breaks down quickly.

I have to admit I've done the same thing, as recently as
last week. If I get interrupted while sanitizing kegs I
tend to do that. I do check the color first to make sure
it still looks good, and often add a small glurg for
insurance.

Good point.

The rule of thumb is that as long as it keeps it's color it is still effective
as a sanitizer. However, usually it will only last for a couple days.

IMO, just make some up when you need it.
