Subject: how long do sanitized items like bottles stay sanitized

Just wondering how long before I bottle can I sanitize my bottles. I don't
have a "tree" so I will be turning them upside down in the cases on clean
paper towels to let them air dry. Can I bottle when they are still wet? Can
I let them completely dry, which would take at least a day I'm assuming?
Thanx in advance.

Gerard

Bottle (crown) caps are cheap, in fact very cheap. Sanitize you bottles and
cap them empty with sanitized caps. If you use food grade phoshoric acid to
sanitise, residual solution will not harm your beer or change the flavor in
any way as small amounts of phosphoric acid occur naturally in beer anyway.
Although I never thought of it before, using pre-sanitized bottles would
make bottling day a bit less tedious.
(notice how many z's I used, I'm learning American!)

>>Just wondering how long before I bottle can I sanitize my bottles.<<

indefinitely if you keep them out of air and dust, but that's prob not
practical. bacteria moves via dust, it does not have legs to crawl
into your bottle. look up the louis pasteur broth experiment....

if you must, but there is risk involved, depends on your comfort level

>>Can I bottle when they are still wet?<<

depends on your sanitizer. i believe the oxidizing santizers work by
evaporation, so they really don't complete the job until the bottle is
dry. i use star san and its a little more liberal with wet vs. dry.
btw, i believe off flavors in my bottled beer were caused by not
rinsing the oxidizing sanitizers and that's why i switched to star san.

I sanitize on friday nite and bottle sat morning, they're dry by then.
if you use really hot water for your solution and let the bottles sit
for a bit in it, they get hot enough to speed the drying process on a
tree to bottle within 1-2 hours.

another option i am going to try is my dishwasher with an NSF
sanitizing feature. no sanitizer, just water and heat.

I'm using BTF idophor, no rinse

As others have said, you can leave them indefinitely. I have sanitized
from one day to two weeks ahead of bottling. I use bleach, rinse and
drain, then stand them all upright and put "Saran" wrap over them all.
They'll keep like that for a very long time. To summarize someone else:
keep the dust out and you'll keep the bacteria out. (Aluminum foil
would work fine too).

In that case you can bottle while they are still wet, that's why it's
called no rinse. Small amounts left over will not have any effect on the
beer. Sanitize, turn them over and let them drain, then bottle.

rotflmao - you'all just do what your masters in England told
you do. What is it - the UK, Ireland, NZ, OZ, and Japan where
they drive on the left side of the road. I don't know about
Hong Kong or South Africa. But the rest of the civilized world
drive on the right!

Here in the USA we are told "Fosters is Australian for Beer".
I hope that is not true cause it's just as bad as American
Swill. Is there a beer that is uniquely Australian?

"Civilized world?" well, thats a whole different subject for a different
group.

We have plenty of good beers, we just send the crap over to you lot, 'cause
we know you like bad beers. I haven't seen anyone drink fosters here for
nearly 30 years. We have another one that you would like as well it's from
Queensland. Unfortunately they cant spell in that state so they call it
XXXX, (pron = 4 ex).

They must have twice the education of the brewers in Mexico who brew XX
