Can Star San cause hardwood floor damage once it's mixed according to
instructions? I really want to get away from iodophor. Regardless of what
people say, I've let my buckets drain for 48 hours before and still had a
major smell from it. At the same time hardwood flooring is expensive. Any
help is appreciated.

You may want to google iodophor. I remember reading that someone had done a
taste test, and left some iodophor in their fermenter. According to them,
there was no detectable iodophor flavor.

Also, if you're letting your buckets dry upside down...this might explain
some of the iodophor smell.

You are correct. Under the heading of good help is hard to find,
~someone~ let a fermenter with an iodophor sit overnight and I can
still smell it. But it has had no effect on either beer or mead.

On the subject of hardwood flooring, I can't imagine doing anything
on hardwood flooring without something to protect the flooring.

The article on this taste test, "The Mystery of Iodophor", is at:

Why would you want to work on hardwood floors with any major liquid? Put
down a bar mat and press on...

But yes, significant volumes of water can hurt hardwoods, StarSan is mostly
water when mixed...you can figure the rest of the math...

Cheers,
Mike

Not to mention the damage caused by a solution of phosphoric acid and
dodecylbenzene sulfonic acid. Ugg.
