As per subject, my cobra taps keep getting mold buildup, mainly on the white rubber gasket/stopper. When I go to clean these, it looks like mold is actually embedded in the rubber. IOW, they do not come clean. This seems like a chronic source of more mold, quicker. I've noticed if I shake the taps out after serving, I can go much longer without things getting chunky. My SOP is to do this, and make sure and clean the taps before company arrives. Is this mold thing just the way cobra taps are? Has anyone found a way around this? Finally, is there a source for replacement, not of the whole tap (which are in excellent condition), but only of the suspect rubber part? I understand these are more cobra tap questions than you probably expected to face when you woke up this morning. Any cobra tap thoughts/experiences will be appreciated. cheers, Scott S -- Scott Sellers

I have the same problem. My kegs are all kept inside the fridge. I recently bought just the replacement tap heads from www.rcbequip.com, AKA www.brewersdiscount.com for $1.79 each and will just be using the white rubber screw on part from them. I think they would last longer if you shake the tap in iodophor solution, or squirt it into the tap after each use. dan Scott Sellers wrote: > As per subject, my cobra taps keep getting mold buildup, mainly > on the white rubber gasket/stopper. I haven't followed the thread so, sorry if I missed something... My cobra tap is what I take when I take a keg out. I always run hot water and then iodophor/water through it when done and store it in my keg fridge. (Actually I do that on my tower taps when a keg runs out too.) So far (knocking on wood), so good as far as any discoloration of the innards go. Like Scott said somewhere in the thread... if it doesn't have anything to eat, it ain't gonna stick around. I've been thinking along the same lines. The problem with iodophor, it doesn't keep well. Maybe just a rinse with plain water would work. I'm thinking if the mold has no beer to eat, it shouldn't grow. thx, Scott S -- Scott Sellers

Well, I have been shaking it in a small container of water a few times to rinse out most of the beer, but alas, they're still moldy. I think it's difficult to get all the beer out of the tap with just shaking it around. I think I'll switch to an iodophor solution in the container and add a lid to keep it in solution. For some reason, iodophor seems to dissipate into the air. dan Scott Sellers wrote: > I've been thinking along the same lines. The problem with > iodophor, it doesn't keep well.
