I'm thinking about making a sparkling honey ale
with about 3-4 carbonation units. I heard somewhere
that the standard reusable beer bottles are rated
at 2.5. I noticed some IBC root beer at the market
and got to thinking that those bottles might hold
up to the pressure. Any ideas or experiance with
glass soda bottles?

I think beer bottles should be able to handle 3-4 volumes of carbonation,
but probably not much more than that. Soda does tend to be more highly
carbonated than beer, so perhaps you're on the right track. IBC bottles
are usually twist offs though, which I'm not a big fan of.

I think Champaine bottles will stand up to higher carbonation pressure,
although I have never seen a number applied to them.

The hard part is capping them.
