Subject: Update to dead batch of cider
|
Hi all, I dumped out my dead cider this evening, and cleaned and sterilized the gallon jug, and started a new batch of cider, using cider I KNEW had no preservatives (well, the label specifically stated that it didn't). I used the same kind of yeast as I did in my first (the successful) batch, so I felt free to play with a different recipe - in this case I used 2/3 of a cup of blueberry juice (which is surprisingly sour and imparted a pleasant purple shade to the cider) and 2/3 of a cup of boiled cider reduction (also preservative free) instead of sugar. I pitched the yeast directly into the cider, added yeast nutrient, and shook it vigorously before putting in the bung and the airlock. Within 3 hours, there was positive pressure in the airlock (all the water had been pushed into the outer chamber) and I also saw my first bubble. Cathy Weeks
