I was looking at the Costco Nexgrill 40 quart turkey fryer and was
wondering if any one had any experience with it or opinions?

When I went today the only one I found there (Costco) was a 44 quart
stainless Steel no drain with a 50000 BTU burner, the brand was Bayou
classic stock number 120493 for $98.99. Although I don't seem to be
able to find to much about it on the web. I guess it is worth a shot.

For $100, you can get an 80qt pot and stand alone burner. That way you
can one day move to 10gal full boils and all grain.

IMO, wait until next week to buy one. The only time of year they really sell
a lot of these (at least to non-homebrewers) is right before Thanksgiving, so
they're going to mark them way up. Wait until the after Thanksgiving sale
when they're trying to get rid of all the ones that didn't sell. Then you'll
get a much better deal on it. You should be able to get a turkey fryer for
around 1/2 of that price.

It should work just fine. This one has the advantage of the 40 quart
pot instead of the 30 or 32 qt that usually comes with those things.
That extra 2 gallons will go a long way towards avoiding boilovers. I
needed to boil 8 gallons of wort just yesterday and my 40 quart pot
handled it just fine.

Works fine, I know of several folks who use a turkey fryer to make beer in.

Jim,
Do you have links on where to get an 80 QT ( I assume aluminum) and
what burner do you recommend? On amazon an 80 qt pot is $168. Thanks.

Here is the pot. Like I said, do a google search for 80 qt pot, and you
will find many more.

I bought this same model 2 months ago. It's very well constructed, and
I am very happy with it. Seems like a steal to me at $99.

My wife just pointed one out to me in Sunday's Target add for Columbus,
OH -- a 30 qt aluminum + burner + useless turkey frying accessories
(fine for 5 gallon batches) for $29. Don't know if this is good at
Target stores all over the states...

I just spent $50 on a 32 quart. Works great, I can get 6 + 1/2 gallons
of wort up to boiling in about 5 or 10 minutes! Beats the electric
stove, that's for sure.

I've seen most people get turkey fryers for $50. This just happens to be
the big season for them right now, with Thanksgiving coming up. I really
think you'll get a better price if you wait a bit.

FYI -- I got a 15 gallon Al turkey fryer with a basket (which is kind of
useless, but cool-looking) for around $70.00. No burner, but I don't
care for the jet burners. Plus I already have one for crawfish boils.

I don't know anything specifically about that one, but they're all pretty
similar. 40 qt is a pretty good size. How much is it?
