I bought a True Brew Amber Ale kit to make somthing quick and dirty
while I wait for other brews to ferment/condition. The kit says to boil
only 20-30 minutes. Will a 60 minute boil do bad things?

Thanks!

It'll be more bitter.

Well, the first rule of kit brewing is to always ignore the instructions
that come with the kit. They are almost always horrible.

Is the extract pre-hopped or does it come with seperate hops?

Both, actually. One can of 3.3 lbs Muntons hopped amber extract, and one
oz Cascade hops.

I did the half-hour boil. I think I'm done with kits.

What were the instructions for the hop additions? I did a similar kit from
my LHBS not True Brew where the wort was pre hopped and the included hops
was for last minute flavoring and aroma additions. That was my first batch
years ago and all I could do was follow directions.

It said to add the LME, the DME, and the hops all together at the
beginning of the boil.

I followed the instructions (mostly) and now it's just time to wait.
Luckily, my spruce beer is just about ready, so I'll have something to
do while I wait ...

I've decided the same...either I'm gonna use tried and true recipes from
people I know or use the "kit" beer instructions as a guideline I can build
off of..that's how I turned my mothers questionable chile con carne into a
chili I'm thinking I should enter into a contest...only difference with beer
is it takes weeks to find out if you messed up...

Unless they've changed it since I've used them, the extract is
unhopped.

Seems pretty weird to have an unhopped extract and only call for a 20-30
minute boil. I believe you, see my earlier comment about kit instructions
being horrible. ;)

IMO, if that's the case, I'd go with what you know works rather than what
the kit says. I'd do a full boil.

My first five or six batches were from True Brew kits. I just
remember following the directions. Perhaps they included enough hops
so a thirty minute boil was all that's needed.

Just go with whatever the directions say.
