I just tried a (for me) new method for taking samples for SG measurments. I wanted a two hole stopper, which I will get for the future, but for this measurment, I just sanitized two pieces of 1/8" ID tubing, I wrapped some plastic wrap around near the end of one of the tubes, then around the other, creating a big blob. I inserted this over the top of my sample bottle, inserted the other end of one tube into my fermenter, held the sample bottle below the beer level, and sucked on the other tube. I quickly had a sample, with a minimum risk to my beer. Bob

And it fits through the hole in my bucket. And I had the hose. There seems to be a lot of discussion here about starting siphons and taking samples. I just thought I'd throw in my two bits. To each his own. Bob
