Hey everyone,
I am a brewer that has been in and out of brewing for around 30 years.
(gad, there is another alzh. moment, is it that long) I got into it,
like a lot, w/being fed up w/prices for brewery beer. I started w/kits
then kit w/extract instead of dex., then kits w/ex and added hops, then
ex and hops, then ex, grain and hops etc. etc.
I have settled into the comfort of extract, DME is preferred, but
liquid is good too, just more for shipping as here in the sticks the 2
stores are into whine not barley. I grow my own hops, they actually
grow themselves as seem like rhubarb hardy, and just am in the process
of setting up w/Corneleus keg system, as the bottle part is what broke
me last time. Also with the quality liquid yeasts actually make very
nice beer, Before them we were kind of stuck w/red star dry (shudder
here) as don't remember kits coming w/any yeast, maybe they do now, but
haven't looked at a kit, other than shaking my head at the price.
Is there any other home craftspeople here in SK that would be
interested in forming a 'club'. I'm not a big one for the 'club' part
but perhaps we could pool and get wholesale qtys. of ingredients.

You don't say where in Saskatchewan, but with only 2 stores nearby
not Regina or Saskatoon.

You should look into Paddockwood Brewing in Saskatoon.

If you're nearer to Regina call Harvest Brewing Rae St. Their bigger
store on Broad ST burned down, and I don't know how they are doing for
beer supplies. They should be able to tell you about the brewing club
in Regina. If they can't, ask when Gord will be working, he will
know.

I know just what you are talking about. I brewed my first batch of beer
back in 1972. Years before it was legal here in the states. Got me
some Blue Ribbon Malt from the grocery store along with some Red Star
bread yeast. Made some of the worst beer I had ever attempted to drink.
:( I went back to making wine and didn't try beer again for almost 30
years. It's amazing what is available now. Welcome back to brewing.

Thanks for info, yes have bought from paddockwood and they are great to
deal with. I had a homebrew (beer) supply store in S'toon and here in
PA, It primarily bought bulk and repackaged into smaller qtys. That
way a person could make all-malt beer for less than a kit that needed
dextrose. S'toon went well (Flat Skunk Brewing Products) PA, not so
much. I am not in a position to re-start but kind of looking for like
minded to coop buy bulk and then split. Any interest out there?
