Subject: Sam Adams Home Brew Contest


Sam Adams (Boston Brewing Co) is having a home brewing competition.
The winner may get to have their beer produced as a new Sam Adams
product line!
Sounds pretty neat. Check it out on their web site if you are
interested.

They did this a couple of years ago (10 or so?) ...
they called it "Longshot", or something like that.

They brewed the recipies of the 3 winners each year.
Some of them were pretty darn good ...

Is this the same sort of thing?

One of our Bloatarians, Mike Hofneagel, was not a finalist, but he got to
brew a batch at the Boston brewpub. He did not make the final cut, largely
because SA did not think that America was ready for a smoked beer.

Smoked beer is made from smoked malt. Usually it is German Rauchmalz from
Weyermann or Hugh Baird's Peat Smoked Malt. Some people smoke it
themselves. This can be very smoky.
