My recollection is that a modification has to be made to a propane burner if you want to use it with a Sanke Keg as a brew kettle. Does anyone have a URL for this modification? Dick

The outer ring on my burner was the same size as the center of the ring the keg would make if set on the ground, so the keg would just "balance" on the burner. I added 3 bolts through the outer ring of the burner with spacers and large fender washers which extend high enough to keep the keg from moving to the side. Thus, the keg sits very stably on the burner. Bob

Just be sure the model that you have can hold the weight. Tom

Not that it matters, but I just realized I did not post the link in my post. But I see that you already have a burner and thus need to make modifications. Anyway, here is what I have..... http://morebeer.com/product.html?product_id=15768 :) Duke

Even some "value priced" propane rigs are pretty level and strong. Can you tell us where we can see it? Like to help, Sean

It is definitly level as I have had no problems with a 10-gal brew pot. I thought I had read that a modification was needed for a half-barrel keg brew pot. In another post, Bob suggested adding" 3 bolts through the outer ring of the burner with spacers and large fender washers which extend high enough to keep the keg from moving to the side." I am going to look into doing that. Dick

Get the pot, see what modifications might be needed to your burner. Mine had three legs and I needed support on the outer perimeter...see my page for details. Cheers, Mike www.ipass.net/mpdixon/

The outer ring on the bottom of my key/kettle is a bit larger than the ring on my burner, so without modification, the rounded part of the bottom of the keg sat on the burner ring, and this was not very stable. In exchange for some homebrew, a welder friend of mine welded three short pieces of flatiron to the outside of the burner ring, so the ring on the keg sits flat on them. This is probably the equivalent of the "bolts and washers" solution given by Bob. As usual, homebrew is the solution to most problems. Bart -- The man without a .sig

It depends on the burner. If it's narrow enough that the burner will fit inside the skirt of the keg, then the whole thing will be fairly unstable. If your burner is wide enough that the keg can sit on top, then you don't have to worry about it. > Does anyone have a URL for this modification? You basically just need to make the burner wider. Some people will weld on some extra angle iron to give the keg a wider base to sit on. John.

I have sankey kegs and on my system http://www.geocities.com/sgdaher/brewery/ i have a low pressure high btu burner under my HLT that takes water from 80°F to 162°F (dough in temp to get to 150°F) in about 20 minutes, My boil kettle sits on a high pressure 175K btu burner that brings sparge from 100 to 212°F in about 15 minutes. Not modifications made.
