Subject: Pilsner specialty malts: Munich vs Crystal?
|
A good pilsner balances the malt with the hops. The question is, whether to use Munich or light crystal to give a bit of color and some malty taste. I've made many batches of pilsner beer using a recipe (Noonan-Brewing Lager Beer) that calls for carapils and Munich malts, in addition to the pilser base malt. However, I recently read Miller's book "Brewing Continental Pilsner" which states that light crystal imparts a cleaner malt flavor than Munich malts, and the recipe calls for light crystal and carapils, with a pilsner base malt. What is your experience and opinion? I want to brew another batch soon. Roger
