Subject: Oxiclean revisited

Hey all,

been out of the group for a while - anyway, very simple question and I
think I know the answer but I thought I'd check.

I ran out of Straight-A but have a brew session coming up before I can
get some more (I have to get the stuff via mail order). Anyway, I used
to use oxiclean way back and found it a pretty good cleaner so I thought
I'd pick some up to use in this case.

I noticed that the packaging now seems to have dire warnings of the
poisonous content and that some kind of detergent has been added. I'm
assuming that the "poisonous" warnings simply mean that, like virtually
*any* household cleaner, it's poisonous and not meant for human
consumption (drink any bleach lately?)

As to the detergent, I'm hoping that it's not too tough to rinse off -
are folks still using this stuff? I know Denny used to be a big
proponent of it.

thanks!

Bill

I use it as my main cleaner now. I would assume the warnings are just
standard cleaner stuff. IE, don't eat it directly from the bucket, etc.
They did add the blue crystales a while ago, but it doesn't seem to cause
me any problems. Just rinse well and you should be fine.

What John said.

I've been using the Oxyclean with blue crystals for a long time to clean
everything. I even defy the direct contact with metal warnings and don't
have issues. Well.. I have no issues leaving Oxyclean sitting in a Corny
for days but once I left an SS teaball (for dry hopping) soaking and a few
parts on it disintegrated while others were not affected at all.

Same here.. my main cleaner and sanitizer if I have the time to let it sit.

I'm still using Oxiclean as my sole cleaner for everything. Just bought
a new box. These days, they call it Oxiclean Versatile, IIRC. But no
changes in it as far as I can tell. I have no problems with rinsing
after a 2-4 hour soak. I don't believe there's any detergent in it.

I used to use it and now I suffer extreme pain in my joints. The doc says it
is from an accumulating blue film on the cartilage surfaces. At least, that
is how it looked in the CT scan. I swore I rinsed that stuff off.

I think what happened is his dor was a bit over zealous when taking X
rays. Instead of put the blue X ray film next to his knees to take the X
ray, he jammed them right in there causing him to limp.

No wonder Thomas has been feeling blue. ;-)

Speaking of Thomas feeling blue, I just saw the episode of Thomas the Tank
Engine where he wonders if he should be repainted a different color, but
then he sees the blue sky and blue balloons and figures blue is a jolly
color indeed. ;)

Yes ... you can't see color in X-Rays. The film on my joints was white.
