I just acquired a bunch of Beer making equipment. In amongst everything was a Brewers Best Classic English Pale Ale. The kit was un opened but a few years old. What would I need to do to brew this kit? Everything is sealed ... The Vac pack on the Hops is still true. The yeast says Active dry yeast is sealed and the only possible date indication is BBE 10 00 Any suggestions? THanks

BBE 10 00 I would guess that it expired in ober 0f 2000, which means its probably manufactured around 1998. Given that the kits aren't very expensive, I personally wouldnt bother with a kit that old, but then I dont have a lot of spare time. However, seeing you already have it - you could say no harm in trying - no harm, but a fair amount of work that might yeild no drinkable beer - time and effort that could be spent making a beer with fresh ingredients - guess it comes down to how much spare time you have in your life. If you do go ahead, then it's probably good idea to get a fresh pack of yeast. hey, If it works out you'll have a twentieth century beer ! Craig B. The extract will probably have some off flavors and the hop character has probably faded some. I'd recommend replacing the yeast. John.

DME keeps better. I have heard of people using old malt extract to make starters, but if you have a two or three pound can of LME, that would make a big starter. Todd

Brewers Best kits use LME, at least all the ones I've seen. John.
