Ok, this is going to be my first brew in about a year. I am going for
a light slightly fruity brew. I am wanting to get the slight fruit
flavors from the hops and yeast. Also, the color I would like is a
medium red.

Batch Size: 5 gallon
Boil Size: 6 gallon

Grains
7.00 lbs American Two-row Pale
2.00 lbs Victory Malt
1.00 lbs CaraPils
0.50 lbs Crystal 120L
1.00 lbs American Wheat

Hops
1.00 oz Cascade 60
1.00 oz Cascade 15
1.00 oz Cascade 5

California Ale V WLP051

In my humble opinion, it's not red enough if you're looking for "medium red"
color. Lose the CaraPils and add more Crystal 120... double it to 1 lb
Crystal 120. And at an OG of about 1.059, I'd hardly call it "light".
Reduce your American 2-row to 6 lb... still not "light", but lighter than
what you had. Be sure to ferment at about 67-70 F, and you will have a
slightly fruity red ale. Good luck!

Dave,
Thanks for the advice, I will give this a try. Sorry about not being
more specific on the 'light' beer, I have been brewing some heavy
stouts with an ABV of 10% so I am looking for a "light" beer of about
4=5$.

With the adjustments that I had specified, you should be at right around 5%
ABV.

If you want to enhance fruity/estery tones, then ferment slightly on the warm
side. Regarding color, I'm not sure if that will really give you a medium
red. The best advice I've heard for getting a red ale is to use a handful of
black patent in the mash. It's not enough to really effect the flavor, but
should help with the red color
