Subject: Moldy malted wheat?

I'm malting wheat and I still have the roots and agrospires intact.
Some of the wheat clumped together and the roots grew some fuzz. Is
this fuzz mold? I've been throwing out germinated wheat that has it as
I come across it. It tends to happen at the center of the clumps.

PS -- I figured out I should be spreading the grains out over a large
area instead of maximizing volume, so I shouldn't have these clumps in
the future.

Adam,

Maybe what you're dealing with is just root hairs. One function of the
root is absorbtion and that occurs in the root hairs.

I would taste one kernal; the mold taste would be very noticeable and
nothing esle growing there will hurt you unless you used barnyard
fertilizer to enhance germination. :-)

Have a good brew,

Peter

Unless it's ergot - from which he might 'enjoy' some lysergic acid!
