Subject: Jack Daniels oak chips

I have a pale ale in the secondary that I was going to bottle this
weekend, but am thinking about adding some JD oak chips and bottling in
a week or so.
I'm wondering if adding the chips for a week will make much of a
difference. The amount recommended to me was "a good handful" of chips,
covered in web paper towels and steamed for a minute or so in the
microwave then tossed into the secondary. I was considering soaking the
chips in bourbon overnight prior to adding as a way to sanitize the
chips and possibly add a bit more bourbon flavor.
Comments on timing? Quantity?

Granted. There's a big gap between "not particularly
thin" and "not particularly thick."

We think my equipment is just about right. I just
think I could stand to brew with it more frequently
than does she.

Getting back on topic (slightly).... I'm not much of a Hitchhiker fan, but
didn't the one guy at the beginning of the story slam like 6 English bitters
right before he hitchhiked on, because he knew it would be his last chance?
