Subject: How to mimic cardboard taste?

I know this isn't something most people would want to do :), but I'd like to induce a cardboard taste to a light lager. What would be a good way to do this?

What would be a good > way to do this? You're nuts, unless you're just doing a dored beer to find out what oxidation tastes like. Either way, all you need to do is aerate the beer. Pop one open and let it sit out to go stale for a couple of days. Mmm, delicious oxidation. Or, if you really want a lot of cardboard flavor, you could "dry hop" with real cardboard. :P -- Dave "Just a drink, a little drink, and I'll be feeling GOOooOOooOOooD!" -- Genesis, 1973-ish

Step 1. Brew a light lager. Step 2. Buy a case of Bud Lite. Step 3. Add Bud Lite to beer before bottling. Step 4. Pour ruined batch down neighbor's drain. Hope that helps. Chekc out the BJCP.org... They have a guideline for doring beers. It's in the study guide.... They suggest to mimic papery/stale taste to "open a bottles to air, reseal, and keep at 100F or warmer for several days" I hope this helps... Spitz

A number of years ago I had a friend who was part of a group that called itself "The Weasels." As a joke, I brewed up a bright yellow ale with quite a bit of hop aroma (can't remember which hop was primary at the time) and called it "Weasel Whiz". I did my best to have it resemble urine in colour and aroma without just buying him a case of BMC. -- Don Levey $ cd /pub Framingham, MA $ more beer NOTE: email server uses spam filters; mail sent to salearn@the-leveys.us will be used to tune the blocking lists.

Why go through the effort to do this? Have you nothing better to do with your time? There is no way anyone likes that characteristic in a beer, I thought so anyway. Just splash the hell out of it once it's fermented, after about a week in the primary...or do it once you have it in the secondary. 99.999% of homebrewers take anal retentive steps to avoid oxidizing their brews but go right ahead........
