A fire wiped out about 4% of the US hops in the Yakima Valley in Washington state. http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/10/03/hops.fire.ap/index.html I don't know about you folks... but our club was going to do a bulk buy next week, wish it would have been last week. Wonder how the prices will change due to this?

Because of the high mark-up seen in the price we pay, I wouldn't think this would have much of an effect. That is, even if the wholesale cost goes up 10% (only an estimated 4% of the crop was lost), the retail price homebrewers pay ($10-$25 per pound) shouldn't change much. Now, there may be some retailers that try to take advantage of a percieved shortage, but it is doubtful the market would support something like that for very long. ab
