A fire wiped out about 4% of the US hops in the Yakima Valley in Washington
state.

I don't know about you folks... but our club was going to do a bulk buy next
week, wish it would have been last week. Wonder how the prices will change
due to this?

Not much would be my guess.

The homebrew market for hops is a very small segment of the overall
hops market. Because of the high mark-up seen in the price we pay, I
wouldn't think this would have much of an effect. That is, even if the
wholesale cost goes up 10% (only an estimated 4% of the crop was lost),
the retail price homebrewers pay ($10-$25 per pound) shouldn't change
much.

Now, there may be some retailers that try to take advantage of a
percieved shortage, but it is doubtful the market would support
something like that for very long.
