Subject: Hop bag alternative?
|
I had received suggestions about rethinking the use of hop bags for a stopped up CFC (see my post of 10/8/06) and wonder if anyone has tried a SS mesh,Since so many complain that their bazooka tubes are prone to stoppage from hops (i.e.,the hops do not flow through the meash) ithought I would flip the situation and use the SS to include the hops...any experiences? -- Thanks Hank

I've never done it that way. Keep in mind though that utilization is partially dependent on the mechanical action of a boil. Anytime you put the hops in a hop bag you're going to reduce your utilization. I just wonder if something heavy like a SS screen would drop to the bottom of the pot and further reduce the utilization, even beyond what a hop bag would. Sounds like it'd at least be worth an experiment though. John.
