Subject: Hop Extract vs Hop Oil

About a week ago I posted a message about my first all grain batch and how
it was very sweet, see "First AG, has very sweet taste". Steve/Aus
suggested adding 7ml hop extract. I plan on testing the gravity again this
weekend and then next weekend bottling half and kegging the rest. As I
usually do, I also plan on tasting the test sample. If it seems way to
sweet I may add the hop extract before I bottle and keg. The problem is,
I'm having a hard time finding hop extract at any of my LHBSs. I have
found hop oil. Is hop oil the same thing as hop extract? Are they
interchangeable?

Thanks,
Rick Knight

Some of us, though, get infected with "gear frenzy". Refractometers,
chest freezers, cold rooms, conical fermentors, nuclear antiphase alpha
particle disenturbulators -- the usual variety of cool but essentially
unneccessary equipment. This can drive the cost of things up.

Still, all of that stuff is cheaper than, say, a good fishing boat,
Porsche collection or cocaine habit.

Some? ;)

You've got one of those too? My beer is still fairly turbulated though,
maybe I should run it through twice?

John.

No -- that could prove lethal. Most likely your Wentz field
entonsulators are misaligned -- an easily remedied condition requiring
only a few household items: some kind of lubricant, a prayer shawl,
gumption, 3 virgins, a scented candle or two and vise grips.

The rest of that I've got, but the virgins are gonna be tough to find.

Both my ex-wifes lost their virginity, but still have the box it came in.

To keep the virgins from running away.

Vice grips wont work in this situation.

It's like any hobby, you get the bug. There is always that better bit of
gear you "need". Before kegging become popular here, I had to get into it
because my mates did. No turning back now.
Have you ever ventured into photography for a hobby, or aquariums. Now they
ARE expensive hobbies. Home brewing is one of the cheapest hobbies I have
had.

Try playing guitar and recording music as a hobby. Fairly expensive as
well. Luckily playing guitar, recording and drinking homebrew dovetail
well with each other.
