Subject: Fermenting in 5 Gallon Water Jugs

So I just bought one of the Better Bottle 5 gallon carboys. I've been
excited to check them out as an alterrnative to glass carboys and mine
arrived today. After looking at it, I remembered I have 4 of those blue
5 gallon water jugs you can buy for purified water. Does anyone know
what those water jugs are made out of? Is it similar to the PET
material used in the Better Bottle carboys? Could I safely ferment and
age beer in them?

You can't be a real country unless you have a beer and an airline. It
helps if you have some kind of a football team, or some nuclear
weapons, but at the very least, you need a beer.

Keep it out of the light whatever you decide to do.

You can ferment in them, but I wouldn't do any significant aging. Based on
past discussions here, they're fairly thin and oxygen permeable.
