I want to build a traveling keg cooler for the 3 gallon corny
I have. What brand and size cooler have people used for this?

I've been wanting to bring some batches to parties and cookouts,
but have no way to lug a 5 gallon, and keep it cold.

Any ideas? Any pictures?

I use a 10 gallon Gott (Rubbermaid) cooler for mine. The keg fits
nicely with lots of ice with room to coil up a cobra tap with the lid
still fitting. I use one of those little CO2 injectors to keep
dispensing pressure up.

If you already *have* a 10-gallon Rubbermaid (or Igloo) cooler, they
would be perfect. But if you don't, and don't want to spend $50+ buying
one, just use your bottling bucket (with the spigot on the bottom).
Insert keg, fill with ice. When ice melts and you want to add more, or
if and when the keg starts to float when emptying, just drain out some
of the water with the spigot. It won't have the insulation qualities of
a cooler, but for parties & picnics it's perfect...and dirt cheap.

I don't have a cooler or a bottling bucket. I only keg, as I don't have
the time an patience for bottling. I am more than willing to spend the
money on the cooler that is well insulated. I'll look for a Rubbermaid
10 gallon. Thanks.

Dan,
Check out this link for some ideas. I posted pictures of my
"Beer on the Go" setup.

Read the thread as several guys also posted great ideas.
I hope this helps.

Thats the one I want to build.. but I misplaced your previous post of this.
Thanks. I still need to get that nice little regulator for my mini-tank setup.

Go to this site:
http://www.northernbrewer.com/regulators.html
Scroll down to #K149 Economy Norgren Regulator.

That regulator has right hand threads on the high pressure side and can be
easily adapted to the paintball tank setup. The regulator high pressure port
is 1/4". Get a 1/4" male X 1/8" female brass reducer (Lowes) and a 2" long
1/8" nipple (Lowes). This can then be set up with a paintball tank Universal
Fill Adapter (any paintball shop or on line from a paintball place). It will
work very well and not cost you a bundle.

Yeah, but I like the regulator you used, which appears more compact.
I already have the 1/4" male X 1/8" female reducer and the 2" 1/8" nipple
from Lowes.. Just need the regulator and fill adaptor and I'm all set.

Dan,
I totally agree. That little regulator is just plain awesome. I have 2 of
them and am absolutely thrilled with them. They come as bare regulators
where you can specify all of the details of its function. Just awesome.!
Let me know if you need the specs/prod# and details if you are going to
order one (2-3-?).. lol.. You will also need to get a gage or 2 to measure
pressures.

PJ Thanks. Can you give me the specs for it. I'm building the exact same
rig you have.. single gauge, right hand threading all around.

Dan,

The regulator is a Tescom 04 Series Miniature/Lecture Bottle unit.
The one I ordered is: 04-1B2AGFNNZ

You can follow the model number layout by going to this web page:
http://www.tescom.com/images/pdf/catalog/icd/04series.pdf
and looking at the PDF spec sheet.

Also you can go to http://www.tescom.com/
And navigate by selecting Products - Industrial - Corrosion Resistant - 04
Series.

You can locate a vendor by navigating with the Sales Contacts link. I was
able to secure one through a local place via special order process.

I sure hope all of this helps.

Are you sure? I'm looking at the picture you posted, and it looks like
you have a "04-1 B 2 A DS NN Z" with the output gauge on the top and a plug
on the bottom inlet port. DO you have the low pressure gauge on top?
Also, you went with the 0-60 PSIG model.. would you need to go that high
for serving? Just wondering if the 0-30 would be acceptable. AF would work
too if you didn't care about ever having high pressure guage on it.

Dan,
I ordered the "GF". In reality the "DS" and the "GF" are the same
regulators. Take the layout image and rotate it 90° and you get the same
configuration. With my unit, both the high pressure input and the high
pressure gauge ports had filter screens in place. The input ports go to a
single chamber (as do both output ports to its own chamber) within the
regulator body.

I chose the 0-60 model as I was intending it for a totally different
application that did not pan out for me. The 0-30 regulator is more than
ample for this application. The "AF" unit would work very well also and
might save you a buck or two. There is no need to have a high pressure gauge
as a backup tank is really requires. Plus once you get into it, you will be
filling your own paintball tanks on the fly. I do. It only takes a couple of
minutes.

When you put this whole thing together, be sure to install a flare check
valve fitting on the output, With this regulator you do not want beer
backing up into it.

Wishing you good fortune.

Tell me more about the tank re-filling process. Do you just connect
2 tanks together, with the filling tank upside down, and open the valves?

That is basically what is done - HOWEVER - there is a lot more to it than
just 'that'. There is a thread on the NB forum that I participated in that
explains the equipment and the process. There are safety issues and
procedures to follow.

Go to this link to see the discussion:
http://forum.northernbrewer.com/viewtopic.php?t=25849
I'd suggest reading it through if you intend to go with a tank refill setup.

Also, I'd suggest reading this article about coČ issues:

I've been toying with an idea for a while now, to build a refrigeration unit
for my kegs. It would be based on a peltier device. Just attatch it to the
side of the keg and plug it in.
