Anyone know who's got the cheapest 5 gal ball valve cornelius kegs
available right now?

I've bought from Adventure's in Homebrewing before, they've got single
handle kegs for $15, two handlers for $18 and 22inch tall kegs for
$25.

Anyone know someplace that can beat those prices or offers cheap
shipping?

TIA

you consider the life of the keg, you really would have to get them for
free to see a signifigant cost difference. In my experience, even
buying at a LHBS at $25 will beat $18 plus shipping. Even if you have
to pay $40 each, the difference is less than the cost of ingredients
for a single batch. And, if for the higher price you have a keg that
isn't dented, has been cleaned and the o-rings replaced, you're ahead
of the game, in my book.

I was getting good, clean kegs delivered for $19 - $20 from Adventure's
in Homebrewing until they raised their price. Apparently they were bidding
against a scrap metal guy for the latest shipment of kegs, and their cost
went up around $5/keg..

My LHBS sells used kegs for $34/ea.

I recently bought one from here:
http://www.homebrewing.org/5-Gallon-Cornelious-Keg-Ball-Lock_p_0-70.html

I got it, and it was clean and is currently holding my lastest batch.

I don't know what their prices are right now, but http://www.rcbequip.com
is often recommended on here and usually has pretty good prices. I've seen
$14 corny kegs there before, but that was a number of years ago.

Scratch that. I read it wrong. I bought a set of four from them a
couple years ago at a very reasonable price, but I don't see that
option any more.

I don't see a set of five listed on their site.. and just getting 5
used kegs was pretty pricey.

The only problem is the shipping. It would cost $21 to ship one keg (to
me anyway) with their shipping vs $9 from ebrew- and I don't live
anywhere near ebrew. I'm assuming their must be some handling charges
in their as well as only giving a few options for shipping. With that
amount of shipping I'd be looking at $40 for one used keg. It seems
like buying local, if possible, is the way to go.

There's an initial fairly steep cost for the first keg. The marginal
increases for the second through fifth kegs are pretty small (usually
about $2 to $3 per keg). Thus, if you wanted to buy more than one, the
shipping costs become somewhat more reasonable.

My LHBS used to sell them for $15 each......alas, they're all gone.

I misread their site. I bought a set of four kegs from them two or
three years ago for $12 piece and reasonable shipping, but it looks
like times have changed. I haven't seen any better deals than the OP's.

I agree completely. I purchased 6x kegs from Northern Brewer over a
period of a few years at prices between $25-$30; every time I drove
through St. Paul, I picked up another keg. Looks like they're now
charging $35 / keg. No affiliation, just a long-time, very happy
customer.

Thanks for the replies. It seems "Adventures" is the way to go. Just
over $45 dollars for two kegs including shipping. I can get them
locally for $25 each which comes out to about $53 dollars for two with
tax. Not much of a difference but thats approx. 7lbs of grain, a good
portion of a batch and I'm in no hurry.

Call your local scrapyard...

I got four very clean cornies for 12 bucks from my local scrapyard.

they get them all the time and hate them since they have to melt the
plastic and rubber off to get to the stainless.

I've seen cornys used by pest control exterminators to spray chemicals.
I would want to be really sure what they are used for before using
scrapped kegs.

That is so cool. Can you imagine a job where you could bring your home brew
to work with you and drink it while you worked? I never thought to use my
homebrew as a pest control chemical. It works really well on the Miller Lite
and Bud drinkers.......

Just kidding, just kidding......

Well I've already ordered two from 'Adventures', but I'll surely keep
your reccommendation in mind in the future. I've been seriously
thinking about a bigger boil kettle, I'm sick and tired of boilovers,
and an old commercial keg from a scrapyard would work nicely,
stainless on the cheap.
