Subject: Beer spots in Montreal

Hey rcb'ers,

I'm going to be in Montreal for a conference in November - anybody have
any recommendations for great beer spots? I'm going to be staying in a
pretty central location, but I won't have a car for this one (I don't
mind taking a taxi though).

I am compiling a list from pubcrawler, but still I've found rcb members
very reliable in the past when it comes to this sort of thing.

Thanks for any recommendations,

Bill

My personal fav is Dieu du Ciel. Just don't expect anything other than
great beer.

Never made it to Dieu du Ciel when I was there last
November, but Bieres et Compagnie (sp?) was very
good. Two locations on Rue St. Laurent. It's not
a brewpub, but a restaurant/bar with a nicely-sized
beer list, very Belgian-focused.

If you like Unibroue's products, you'll be in heaven;
$5 Canadian per bottle, and you can get a full
selection at most of the hole-in-the-wall corner
convenience/grocery stores.

Although they don't serve beer (that I noticed),
Schwartz's deli is definitely worth a trip. Their
smoked meat sandwich is amazing; I'd almost go back
just for that :-)

Hey,

thanks for the recommendations - and Schwartz's Deli is definitely on my
list!

Cheers,

I had quite an enjoyable stay here as well. I liked some beers better
than others, but once I found one I LOVED and stuck with it. Liked the
place enough to buy a pint glass - that says a lot for me.

Spending an afternoon drinking ales and listening to French jazz was
memorable.

Wish I went to unibrou :(
