There's also "qbrew" which runs natively on Linux. It is more basic than
Strangebrew, tho', but I got it running and haven't gotten Strangebrew
running from Linux yet (just the Windows version a couple years ago).

Looks like qbrew is here: http://usermode.org/code.html

I try to use native software where possible, the only Java app I use
is JAlbum. I think I ran across qbrew on a Google search or maybe it
was something called brewnix. Memory is failing...

Cheers

qbrew is written using Qt and is quite native. I've used it, it's a
cool app, though I still prefer a calculator and a pad of paper.

Sorry, was talking about the Java apps. I have a couple of Qt proggies
I use, but mostly I use GTK apps (Gnome user)

In the end though, you're probably right. I have an A4 folder with food
recipes on my shelf and I'll prolly end up with another one for beer :-)
I prefer to have paper to read over stuff on a screen, even with a 19"
LCD! It's much easier to flip through and compare.

I doinked around with some of the software apps and finally just
bought Daniels' "Designing Great Beers" and started doing the layout
and calculations myself. I wrote a couple perl scripts to run the
calcs for IBUs and Brix-- >SG (and also programmed them into my
calculator).

To each his/her own, I guess.

I have used qbrew as well. The Strangebrew java is more comprehensive but
qbrew is great if you just want a simple record of ingredients and the OG,
FG, ABV, IBU and colour.

I use qbrew as my main brewing calculator. It's a little less comprehensive than some of the others, but it's quick
and easy to compute OG's and IBU's. I'm not sure how it computes the FG, but I've never seen any "adjustments" on it (e.g.
mash temp, yeast strain, etc). Still... it works OK and makes a decent output format printout if you want.

Thanks, but my contempt of MS is so strong I refuse to even run windows
programs under Wine. I also do not purchase commercial software. After
years of wasting vast sums of money on OS/2 and its software only to be
kicked in the teeth by IBM I've learned my lesson :-)

I will, however, pass this on to a good friend who works at a US micro
and is unfortunate enough to put up with having his pockets picked by
Billy boy and his gang of thieving thugs.

Cheers

Thanks, saw it in another post and it's sitting on my desktop. I'm
debating whether to install it or upgrade my distro first :-)

It won't work in wine? (*ducks*)
