How do you guys open a White Labs Vial without it spewing? When I get them I put them in the fridge, usually for 3 or 4 days before I get ready to use them, and then when ready I take them out and let them warm up to room temps before breaking the seal...but they spew. I've also tried opening them while they are still cool from the fridge...they spew and foam still. Am I doing something wrong? or is this normal for these things?? I usually crack them open just a tiny little bit and let the pressure hiss out. If it starts to spew foam I close it, wait a minute, and the slowly open it just a tiny bit again. I can get them open with only minimal spewage. I don't think it really hurts anything if they spew though, other than being a little messy. John.

(I pitch after letting them warm up for a few hours.) It's just the carbon dioxide that the yeast made after they were sealed up. I wash my hands carefully, and open very slowly. Never had any real problems with the beer. -- Mark Jeffcoat Austin, TX
