Subject: Aeration during whirlpool

I just starting using an o2 tank with a stone, and I'm not convinced
that I'm getting the full surface area saturated that I should. Is
there any reason I couldn't aerate my wort during the whirlpool in my
kettle?

As long as the temp is lower then 80ish (I have taste the effects of
HSA and my friend it is the hurtful to drink and even more hurtful to
come to terms with that fact that your drain has drunk more of your
beer then you have!)

My method of aeration has yielded some GREAT effieciency. I aerate in
the carboy with a stone('bout 30 secs), like usual but then since the
pure o2 (I use bottled o2) is still in the carboy then I do the shaking
method for another min. I understand that people use the bottled o2 so
they don't have to shake it but no one STAYS a homebrewer if they are
lazy.

Sure they do.

They just find easier ways to do it so they can still be lazy brewers.

Exactly. And if I could have come up with a shorter reply, I would have...

I should have said "We" instead of "They"..

I see it like the big bang theory. You start off small and then explode
into new terrority very quickly. Then you kind of fart around like that for
a while until you're comfortable. Then you start slowly bringing things
back in to make them easier, but still making kickass brew.

OK.. maybe a nerdly analogy and a bit off the mark, but it worked in my
head. :-)

As long as you chill first, it should work fine. IMO, you shouldn't worry
about the aeration you're getting though. An O2 tank should be giving
you plenty of aeration by itself, probably more than most people get from
other methods.
