Subject: A gusher in the secondary

I was adding all the little extra goodies to my breakfast stout in the
secondary the other day. Two pounds of maltodextrin, 6 ounces of cocoa
powder, a vanilla bean, and 4 ounces of molasses. It was dissolved in a
quart of coffee, and I made space in the carboy by boiling down a little
over a quart of beer until it caramelized.

I think dumped the whole thing through a funnel into my secondary, and
it proceeded to turn into a geyser and beer globbed out aggressively.
It made a huge mess in my beer closet since I don't expect that kind of
behavior. I guess the mixture was very dense, and I was adding it to a
solution with residual carbonation. It was probably like dropping a
Mentho into a soda bottle.

I'll have to take another sample of this stuff in about a week to see if
all the additions came through. I think the carboy ejected a lot of it.
Maybe that was a hint from the beer.
