Sunday I brewed a beer from which I got 4.5 gallons of wort with an OG of 1.062. I had it cooled to 80F (26.7C and started cleaning up. Later when it got down to 75F (23.9C), without thinking I pitched the starter. I should have added a gallon of water which would have lowered the OG to about 1.051. It is now rigorously fermenting. Is it ok to add the water now - 27 to 30 hours later? Dick

Sure, no problem. Boil the water to drive off oxygen, then cool it and gently pour it into your fermenter. John.

Oxygen doesn't really matter if you're adding it to vigorously fermenting wort - might even help. Steve W.

I use the cheap supermarket brand of soda water to dilute, dunking the necks into sanitising solution before opening. Steve W (in Aus)

Saves a step, and won't hurt anything, no?
