Subject: RCB: Do we talk wine here too?
I've been brewing for 6 or 7 years, started allgrain this year. I'm
cheap, yep, and I hate Christmas. Bah Humbug. Who knows what Uncle
Bob wants, or what Nana Betty needs. I'm tired of trying to decide
gifts. So I thought I'd brew up some wine to give. Bought one of
those Vintners wine kits this week, and it's fermenting happily as I
type. I may have to give it with the stipulation that they "leave it
in a closet for a month or two" but that's ok.

Are we talking wine making here too? Or just beer? I'm anxious to try
a few more wines, see how it goes, and relay my results and get
advice, but I'm not sure if this is the forum.

Thanks gang.

We can help you on rec.crafts.winemaking as others have said. I'm the
opposite of most of the people on this group; I know winemaking and am
learning beermaking. Rec.crafts.winemaking is a pretty old group, I
have no idea why it wasn't listed. Maybe activity, it's low
recently.

A lot of people make both but it's more on topic in
rec.crafts.winemaking and rec.crafts.meadmaking.

Thanks, I'll check out the winemaking group. For whatever reason, my
newserver wasn't listing it as an available group.

Then you need to send a message to your USENET provider requesting them to
carry the group. Most providers will turn such requests around in a day or
two.

Exactly. That's why it's inappropriate here.

We can talk about anything you want. I made a kit wine a few years ago and
I kinda forgot about it while it was in secondary.

Let's just say when I bottled it, it was REAL CLEAR... I think it was a
Vintner kit.

Made the strawberry, it did great.

BUT, after all is said and done, now I have to open all of the damned
bottles, kill the yeast and put some flavor and color in them...

So, with caveats, I say have fun with the kit.

Hey, you want an easy recipe for about this time of year? Do you have any
mint around your house? Pick 3 cups of leaves, any flavor (probably NOT
catnip, though) 3 lb sugar and a gallon of water. Any type of wine yeast.
I recommend a gallon to see if you like it.

The color might throw you off, I'll warn you. Last batch I made, I used
primarily pineapple mint and it came out practically a neon green. Mountain
Dew with a pretty good kick. It was pretty darned good young, too.
