Hi, I just tried a beer from Elysian Brewing called the Avatar Jasmine IPA and was wondering how to make something similar. Has anyone used jasmine before? Any comments or tips? Are dried jasmine flowers the same as what jasmine tea would be? Their website has a pretty good write-up. Can anyone make some suggestions on a recipe to try? >From website: NAME A version of IPA with and eastern touch, referring to the word's literal meaning - an incarnation of the Hindu god Vishnu. INGREDIENTS Brewed with English Pale, German Munich and small amounts of German Carahell and English Crystal malts. Bittered with Chinook and finished with Glacier and Amarillo hops. Dried Jasmine flowers added in the boil and hopback FLAVOR Florally fragrant and slightly sweet, with hops to balance. alcohol content 15.5=B0Plato (1.062) alcohol 4.7% by weight/5.6% by volume . body Somewhat sturdy, but refreshing Thanks, Waseem

I think they make the tea by letting tea leaves absorb aroma from the flowers. I'm thinking of just adding about 1/2 oz or so just prior to flameout, and maybe trying to make a 'jasmine essence' by steeping in a cup of vodka for a few weeks and adding to taste at bottle time. Do you think that there's anything to be gained by adding jasmine to the boil earlier?

To my thinking jasmine is mostly about the aroma. I'd use it like an aroma or dry hop. 1/2 ounce seems like a good place to start. cheers, Scott S -- Scott Sellers
