Someone asked for alcohol that was fast and cheap.
This is an updated version of my 2005 recipe.

Chateau Trailer Park (21st Century Ripple)
------------------------------------------
Mix 17-1/2 lbs of sugar into 3 gals of water at 176 dF
(that's 8O Celcius).
Dump into 5 gallon pail and fill with water to 5 gal mark.
After it cools,
* The OG should be about 1.61, but you'll need a
hydrometer to know that.
* pitch Strand's Turbo Yeast.
Cover and set air lock.
Stir vigorously daily
Do not worry about oxidization. That is the least
of your worries.

Assuming you have a hydrometer and have not broken it,
take reading after the fifth day and every two days
after that. Your target FG is 1.020 which will give
you an ABV of 18% to 19%.

After achieving your target FG, add the proper number
of Kool-Aid packs for 5 gallons, stir vigorously, and
cover. Lemon-Lime and Cherry are best because they
help mask the yeast taste.

A few days later, fill a few 1 liter plastic bottles,
take them to your local skid row and distribute to
the local gentry. If nobody spits it out, you have
a winner.

For the stuff you keep, fill empty two liter soda
bottles and let them age as in let the sediment sink
to the bottom and rack. Continuing doing this until
the yeast taste is gone.

Don't worry about drinking a liter or two while waiting
for it to clear. You won't start to go blind until the
5th or 6th batch.

But it's cheap and it's fast! :)

Hi Dick,

Funny recipe! However, not too long ago I toured a local micro-
distillery and they used essentially the same recipe to make the mash
they distilled to vodka and gin.

Cheers!

I made this mixture at the beginning of the summer and i just threw it all
down the sink yesterday. I did it with the intent of adding the Still
Spirits flavoring essences to it, but the smell was just unbareable. It was
clear as a bell, but i couldn't handle the stink! Had i known about the
kool-aid idea i probably woulda gave that a shot before dumping the whole
works of it, but i doubt that it would have made a difference.

I completely fabricated the use of Kool-Aid. But I did find
if you rake it monthly over a six month period the stentch
will dissioate.

It has that wonderful fusel alcohol aroma which is why
you have to let it age.

Would you put a label on this stuff?

Personally, I'd try to wipe my fingerprints off of it.

Nevertheless, I do know of many budding homebrewers making a kit for the
first or second time that add an extra Kilo or two of sugar to 'up the
power' of their homebrew. Alas, for most it usually signals an end to their
homebrewing activities after drinking such disgusting tasting, headache
inducing swill.

The first time I ever saw anybody make homebrew, he added a pint of

I don't believe this! and I'm not going to wreck my fermenter with this
stuff. Imagine the beer after this brew. YUCK.

In Oz, cordial comes in bottles of concentrate, so these sachets of koolaid
aren't available (and a good thing).

It's a great idea, maybe to use a big bucket or something. Something that
could be sacrificed. doesn't sound very nice though.

Your fermenter will not be ruined. Mine was not ruined.

I will be in OZ from 30 November to 13 December. I will
bring Kool-Aid and return with Vegemite!

The only thing homebrewers need sacifice when using my recipe
is their virginity and their sanity. Of course, your sanity
is lost as soon as you sacrifice your virginity.

You could always make your own vegemite, after a batch of CTP, you'd
have enough yeast to try:)

That's definitely an acquired taste, and even though I tried I just couldn't

It's technically inedible. And there was a big fat rumour going around that
it's now a prohibited import into the US, soemthing about folic acid. It's
a byproduct of brewing, so maybe the loony far right US Christians got onto
it.

That was very entertaining, but it makes me want to revisit the question
of alcohol blindness. What line did we cross here that the "5th or 6th
batch" would cause blindness? Seems the use of simple sugar is common in
many beer recipes.

Tom

Methanol is the alcohol that can cause blindness. Beer yeast ferment
sugar to produce ethanol. You really only run into problems with
alcohol blindness if you're drinking Aqua Velva or if you distill your
fermented beverage because distillation can concentrate chemicals (like
methanol) to high enough concentrations to be unhealthy.

Good question. I made it up because it seemed humorous
to me. But I will refer your question to my legal advisor
