I'd like to find a source for 1/2 liter beer bottles. Suggestions are
appreciated.

Call around to restaurants and places that cater to weddings and ask
them to save the champagne bottles for you. You can offer to pay them
a couple of bucks for a case, but if you ask around enough, you can
generally get them for free. No, they are not exactly 1/2 liter, but
they
are close enough. A standard champagne bottle will accept a beer
bottle cap. Some do not, however, so bring a cap with you when you
go to pick them up.

A homebrew store.

A Google search for 500 ml beer bottles turned up a half dozen
homebrew stores on the first page.

I have found the local homebrew stores can often get the bottles for you
much cheaper, since you are not having to pay for shipping. But, I have
many times ordered from the internet: www.williamsbrewing.com
www.midwestsupplies.com www.northernbrewer.com www.grapeandgranary.com are
just a few of the online suppliers I have used and always gotten great
service from all. www.morebeer.com is another great site, but I don't
believe they are selling bottles, any longer (I could be wrong). Anyway, in
the 500cc size, you are probably wanting the Grolsch style swing top
bottles, which I have used a lot. They are easy to use and I have had a
pretty good supply on hand for years without losing any (EZ cap is one brand
and I think williamsbrewing had some nice heavy duty glass bottles last time
I checked). Anyway, I hope this helps -- at least more than the "go google
it for yourself" reply.
