Sigh. Now I remember why I like and dislike making 10 gallons of brew. I
like making large batches because I rarely get a day to myself, where I can
brew without interruption. It helps to make a big batch, knowing that the
next time you get a chance to brew, it will probably be several months down
the road. Dislike, you ask? Having lifted 12 gallons of wort onto a
burner, all by myself, I found I could barely stand up, this morning... I
really need a brew partner. Or, better yet, a decent brew sculpture!

I used to do that with a full keg everytime I brewed. I do 12.5 gal batches
and used to do the entire thing with gravity and the higher you can get it
the better the flow. I just had surgery on the lower back, so decided to
spend the big bucks and get a pump. The biggest lesson learned was 2 pumps
are better then 1 that being said the last 2 batches made have both been
real smooth with out any hiccups or new lessons learned (maybe I did it
wrong : ). You have to take care of the back and wither add more steps to
lesson the weight or add additional equipment to do the work for you. I you
want to check out the site with some pics here is a link:

Awesome site, Bubba. Your initial setup (with the 10 gallon Gott coolers)
is much like my setup, now. I joke a lot about getting a B3 brew system
(they are really smooth), but I've made so many really good beers with my
low tech, low cost system, I just can't justify the $$. Maybe when I get my
kids out of college... in 20 years... Anyway, enjoyed your pics, especially
the military pics. Next time I have a brew, I'll raise it in your honor...

I've been using a strong step stool recently. It ain't graceful, but it
sure does save the old back...

Cheers,

I don't have a brew sculpture, but I sure don't have to ever
lift 12 gallons onto a burner. I collect my run off into
a 3 gallon vessel, and make 4 pours out of it. I'm much
less likely to spill one, and if I do, it's only 3 gallons.

Doh! You're a smart man, Bart Goddard... Now, I'll have to go find me a
good 3 gallon vessell... Well, I have to admit, that will be a lot cheaper
than a brew sculpture, lol.

True, true...I've always had a uncanny knack for getting
out of work. (I use my smaller brew kettle(s) to collect
run-off.)
